Why choose aluminium over SS for coastal projects?
Anodised aluminium 6063-T5 provides excellent corrosion resistance in coastal environments and costs significantly less than SS 316 marine grade. For projects where colour matching to curtain wall or window systems is required, aluminium is the preferred specification as it can be powder-coated in any RAL colour or anodised in bronze, champagne or natural silver.
What is the difference between powder coat and anodised aluminium?
Powder coat is an applied polymer coating available in any RAL colour — standard thickness 60–80 microns. Anodising is an electrochemical process that converts the aluminium surface to aluminium oxide — an integral part of the metal itself. Anodised finishes are harder, more scratch-resistant and more durable in coastal environments. Standard anodising is 15–25 microns.
